Hailakandi Assam

Hailakandi is a district & the district head-quarter town. Hailakandi is located in the southernmost corner of Assam. With the scenic splendor of nature and meandering river, Hailakandi is a treasure trove of cultural and religious tourism.

Hailakandi is located 330 kms away from Guwahati. The nearest airport Kumbhirgram is 50 kms drive. Hailakandi is connected through meter gauge rail network with Lumding (Assam) and Agartala (Tripura) through the Katakhal Railway Station.

The district of Hailakandi is spread over 1326 Sq. Km and lies at an elevation of about 680 mts above sea level. Hailakandi is situated on the banks of the Barak River that is popularly known as Barak Valley.

The sparsely populated region with abundant natural beauty is the primary attraction of the place. This is a place where you can take life slow and easy, relax for a few days. Almost 50% of the region is under forest cover, much of which still remains devoid of human habitation.

The most common language spoken here is Bengali, especially the Sylheti dialect of Bengali. Hindi, Manipuri, Dimasa, Khasi etc. is also spoken widely. Tea is the main industry of the district and maximum livelihood is generated by working in the tea gardens.

Siddyashar Bari Sibmandir – This temple is located in the Badarpur Ghat region.
Pach Pirr Mukam – is located in the southern side of Hailakandi.
