The
place got its name from the Cooch dynasty. Coochbehar was
the capital of the dynasty for more than 400 years. It became
part of India at the time of India's Independence. Coochbehar
is now a district of West Bengal.
The remains of the old kingdom attracts
a tourists to the region.The center of attraction in Coochbehar
is the Raj Palace. It was established by the king Nripendra
Narayan Bhup Bahadur in 1885. After the death of the king
Nripiti Jagadeependra Narayan in 1973 it lost its old glory
and were in ruins. In the recent past Archeological Survey
of India (ASI) has taken up the maintenance of the Coochbehar
palace. Today the Palace is back in its full glory. There
is also a museum inside this palace. There is also a park
near the palace.
At
a short distance from the palace is the temple of Madan Mohan
of Coochbehar. The temple was build by the Cooch kings in
1889. The temple God is highly revered. Every year tens of
thousands of pilgrims visit the temple.

attractions of CoochBehar including Sagar Dighi, Ananda Ashram,
Old circuit house, Moti Mahal, Victor Palace etc.
