Gorumara National Park

Entrance to Gorumara You cannot afford to miss Gorumara in your trip to Dooars. A two-hour journey from Bagdogra / NJP through winding roads and tea gardens takes you deep inside the National park. Located on the bank of Murti.

River the Gorumara National Park has a large variety of flora and fauna. The grassland of Gorumara is famous for Asiatic one-horned rhino.

Wild Life in Gorumara

Rhino The watchtower beside the Forest Rest House gives a panoramic view of the entire park and the Murti Valley. The tower is the best place to observe wild animals. Most common animals in the area are one horned Indian rhino (19 in number), Elephant (more than 50), Indian Bison (300 in number, commonly known as Gaur), Leopards (locally known as Chitabagh, about 25 in number) and deer as they regularly come to the salt reservoir just below the tower. Visitors need to obtain a special permission to enter into the core area of the park.

Birds in Gorumara

Major bird species seen in Gorumara include Minivets, Pheasants, Hornbills, Woodpeckers, Cuckoos, cormorants, Pigeons and Mynas. During the winter months, migratory birds including The Brahminy duck, Ibis, Stork and other varieties can also be seen here.
