New Elgin is one of the oldest hotels in
Darjeeling. The hotel is set is a Vicotian mansion that dates
back to 1885. The mansion was the summer home for the Maharaja
of Cooch Bihar who used to hold most of his parties at this
mansion entertaining the royal guests in its cozy interiors
with wooden paneling and floorboards. The New Elgin hotel
is decorated with Tibetan rugs, tasteful furnishings of Burma
teak, crackling log fireplaces and discreet uniformed waiters
ready to serve you at all hours.
