World Tourism Day - It was decided that there will be no grand celebration of the World Tourism Day this year. Instead the programme will be restricted to a seminar (on tourism), press meet followed by lunch. Tourism has started with renewed vigour in his region with Hoteliers, Service providers, Tour Operators, Travel Agents, Travel consultants and various organizations coming under a banner pledge to work to improve and streamline operations and turn this region into tourist friendly region. West Bengal Tourism Department, TAAS, EHTTOA, FAST and many other organization working togather 
 
Eastern Himalayas Travel and Tour Operators Association (EHTTOA) is the apex body of tour operators in Eastern India. EHTTOA celebrated the event in various ways earlier In Darjeeling, Siliguri, etc. This year too grand celebration was reduced to seminar on Linking Culture (As per the theme of World Tourism Day) and press meet. Due to the recent earthquake of September 18, the EHTTOA members has decided not to celebrate the event in bigger way. A seminar (with few presentations) and a press conference was held at Shivmandir, Siliguri.
 
A group of EHTTOA decided to pay a visit to Mangan for distribution odf relief soon. It was an event started with a minute silence in the memory of the lost people in Sikkim, Bhutan, Darjeeling and Nepal plane crash victims. 
 
North Bengal Development Minister Mr Gautam Deb has announced that six buses will be introduced by the state government on September 29, 2011. This will be in six major route for the important train reaching New Jalpaiguri Railway Station during prime time (Details will be known only after a week of the operations).
 
Bus 01 - New Jalpaiguri Railway Station to Salugara / Darjeeling More / Mallaguri via - Tenzing Norgey Bus Terminal (Junction)
Bus 02 - New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) to Salugara
Bus 03 - New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) to Darjeeling 
Bus 04 - New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) to Kalimpong
Bus 05 - New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) to Gangtok 
Bus 06 - New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) to Darjeeling 
 
North Bengal Development Minister - Mr Gautam Deb informed the media that all plans of the government to enable hassle free tourism will be applicable during the festive season. He informed that six tourist assistant booths will be set up during the
 
festive season in New Coochbehar, Alipurduar, Malbazar, Bagdogra Airport, New Jalpaiguri Rail Station and Siliguri Junction area. He requested tourists through the media to visit the Dooars and the hills without worry.
 
The starting of "On Call" Auto Rickshaw service in Siliguri which is going to be operational before the festive season with active support of Eastern Himalayas Travel and Tour Operators Association (EHTTOA)

 Information Kiosk at New Jalpaiguri Station (NJP), Bagdogra Airport (IXB), Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus (Junction) will be operational soon.
