For Green Lake Trek enthusiast -  Zemu Glacier is the largest and the most famous glacier of the eastern Himalayas and is in the Indian state of Sikkim. Sikkim has the largest number of glaciers i.e. 84 with Zemu glacier being the biggest. Zemu glacier is the main source of water for Teesta River. It is near Lachen in North Sikkim. One has to walk over Zemu glacier to reach Green Lake by trek. Alarmed over the shrinkage due to global warming of the 26 kilometers long Zemu glacier in the eastern Himalayas, Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling has sought a report on the shrinkage of Zemu glacier by three to six meters.
