This year the winter festival of Kalimpong
will be organized in a bigger scale than that of the last
year. Plans are on to continue the fest for eight days.
The organisers of the show of last year
are now planning to promote the hill culture and heritage.
The festival is going to be organized between the Christmas
and New Year's Eve.Chief Coordinator of Kalimpong Winter Fest
Mr. Sandip Jain explained that there were only 40 days in
their hand when they arranged the show last year. But this
year they have already started the work on Kalimpong Winter
Fest which will start on 24th December. He also added that
the surplus fund from last year will be utilized this year.Previous
year there were only three corporate houses i.e, Maruti Udyog,
P.C.Net and The Telegraph who sponsored the fest. But after
seeing the success of the fest, a number of sponsors are now
keen to support the show.
The list of the items which will be included in the show is
quite long and attractive. There will be trekking, bungee
jumping, cycling, food festival, rock climbing at Pedong,
angling and rafting on Tista, dance competitions, photo exhibitions
and flower shows. An ethnic march and picnic will also be
organized in Rellie. This year the show will also be held in
the neighboring spots like Lava, Loleygaon and Ryshap.
There is a lot of difference between last
year's and this year's Festival in terms of the theme and
the fund. This year the organisers have decided that they
will not collect any fund from the local citizens. Instead
the fund will be provided by the sponsors and the local Government
Authorities. The theme of the fest will be the unique culture
and heritage of Kalimpong. The organisers are hoping that
the number of the tourists will increase with the help of
this initiative as it happened last year.
When a group of youth held this show first
time last year, they got the help of Darjeeling Gorkha Hill
Council, Kalimpong Municipality, WBFDC, the army and different
NGOs.
Mr. Jain added that this year different
educational institutions, Government Departments and Corporate
Houses and Associations have come forward to make this festival
a successful one. |
