With the recent success in marketing its forest bungalow,
the West Bengal Forest Development Corporation (WBFDC) has decided
to expand its horizon and explore the tourism possibilities in Kalimpong.
Mr. Niraj Singhal, Divisional Manager, Kalimpong (general
& special) informed that WBFDC has earned Rs. 25 lakhs this
year from the tourists, which is 35 per cent more than last year.
This is without counting the bookings for the peak season of autumn
which is still to come.
Among the nine spots where the cottages and the rest hoses of WBFDC
are situated, the most popular are Lava,
Lolegaon and Samsing.
The Corporation is now thinking of adding more rooms to the existing
cottages in Lolegaon in order to accommodate more tourists.
WBFDC is also encouraging the concept of eco-tourism in these areas.
Similar ideas are also being promoted in other places like Mongpong
and Samsing. The constraints like natural calamities, political
disturbance and squally climate are not yet seen this year. So the
corporation is hopeful about the flock of tourists this year.
