The Forest Department is trying to do
something new by distributing the seeds of medicinal plants
at free of cost among the people for spreading awareness on
conservation of forests on the eve of the Aranya.
Saptaha (forest week). The program has started
from 14th July. The D.F.O. Silviculture, North Division, Mr.
Mana Ram Baloch said that the department distributed only
flower and fruit plants till now. But keeping in mind the
potential of medicinal plants in this region the Department
has taken this step.
The main objective behind this initiative
is to make the people familiar with the plants which they
can grow in their home. From the Social Forestry wing in Dabgram,
the department has a plan to distribute about 14000 saplings.
There are 30 species which includes Krishna tulsi (effective
for malaria, asthma, indigestion, arthritis) and nayantara
(beneficial for leukaemia, high blood pressure and diabetes)
are already distributed. The Department also released a leaflet
giving the details of the uses and the process of growth with
color picture.
