The State Forest Minister Mr. Jogesh Burman, at the
closing ceremony of the 21st Forest Week, informed the media that
the Forest Development Corporation has decided to promote eco-tourism
in three places of West Bengal with the help of private entrepreneurs.
The project will be materialized after
the monsoon with an objective to exert a pull on the tourists in
the winter. The Minister declared that among the places Buxa Dooar
under the Buxa Tiger Reserve is one as the other two are Bakreswar
and Sunderbans.
The Aranyo Saptaho was started on 14th July in Purulia this year.
Same as the previous years the event was organized by the Forest
Department and the respective Zilla Parishads. The function was
completed on 20th July.The State Minister said that the main reason
behind the current state of inadequate tourism infrastructure and
lack of tourists in Dooars is the fear of militancy in parts of
the area. The minister opined that the virgin natural beauty of
the forests of Dooars will be enough to pull the wave of tourist.
The daunting Buxa Fort will
be an added attraction for the tourists. Keeping this in mind the
eco-tourism project is taken up by the Forest Department. Mr. Burman,
in this respect said that there is a palpable interests in the people
of South Bengal to visit the Buxa Hills. He also assured that the
required arrangements for the tourists would be made as soon as
possible. The forest villagers will also be benefited indirectly
by these projects. The trekking route between Santala Bari to the
Buxa Fort will remain the main attraction for the tourists.
Other eminent personalities like the Sabhadhipatis of Jalpaiguri and Coochbehar Zilla
Parishad, PWD Minister Dasrath Tirkey and the Principal Chief Conservator
of Forests G.B.Thaprial were also present in the meeting. The students
who scored good results in Madhyamik were awarded prizes.
