The State Forest Minister Mr. Jogesh Burman, at the closing ceremony of the 21st Forest Week, informed the media that the Forest Development Corporation has decided to promote eco-tourism in three places of West Bengal with the help of private entrepreneurs.

The project will be materialized after the monsoon with an objective to exert a pull on the tourists in the winter. The Minister declared that among the places Buxa Dooar under the Buxa Tiger Reserve is one as the other two are Bakreswar and Sunderbans.

The Aranyo Saptaho was started on 14th July in Purulia this year. Same as the previous years the event was organized by the Forest Department and the respective Zilla Parishads. The function was completed on 20th July. The State Minister said that the main reason behind the current state of inadequate tourism infrastructure and lack of tourists in Dooars is the fear of militancy in parts of the area. The minister opined that the virgin natural beauty of the forests of Dooars will be enough to pull the wave of tourist. The daunting Buxa Fort will be an added attraction for the tourists. Keeping this in mind the eco-tourism project is taken up by the Forest Department. Mr. Burman, in this respect said that there is a palpable interests in the people of South Bengal to visit the Buxa Hills. He also assured that the required arrangements for the tourists would be made as soon as possible. The forest villagers will also be benefited indirectly by these projects. The trekking route between Santala Bari to the Buxa Fort will remain the main attraction for the tourists.
