Lake gest life in tourism plan : July 21

The Damdama Jheel of Mathabhanga I Panchayet Samity is going to be another destination of the tourists. Rs. 10 lakhs, has been sanctioned for the project that will be utilized for the development and the inclusion of the paddleboats and making a man-made forest besides the lake.

The Sabhadhipati of the samity Lalchand Barman added that they are trying to promote this small hamlet into a tourist destination, which will ensure the economic prosperity of the local community.

The lake is spread over an area of 25 bighas and the location is in Gopalpur Gram Panchayet area about 8 kilometers from the Mathabhanga Sub divisional town. The lake is close to the Indo-Bangla border. According to a Panchayet Samity members, the Siliguri-Mathabhanga State Highway will be an added advantage of this project. Here the tourist can visit a temple round the year. The facility of boating in the water of the lake will surely make the tourists spend some time here.

Plans are also on to make a deer park, garden and a children park in the center of the lake. The B.D.O. of Mathabhanga II informed this. He also added that they are also thinking to build a rest house in the area. Cleaning the surrounding 45 bighas area to exhibit the water bodies of the region in front of the tourists has started. Also about 15000 saplings have been planted around the lake to increase greenery.

The lake will be ready for the tourists in the next season and the paddleboats will be here before the pujas.
