The Gorkha Dukha Niwarak Sammelan whose
area of activity is to spread and conserve the Nepalese culture
of the people living in hills, have decided to spread its
wing amongst the new 'MTV generation'.
Although the plans have surprised some people,
the members of the organization are confident that every culture
should have such flexibility to accept changes.
The organization came into existence in
1932 with a motive to safeguard the social and cultural identity
of the hill people. Singers like Amber Gurung and Aruna Lama
are some who were promoted by the Nepali Singing Competition
held by the Sammelan. Now the Sammelan has decided to take
in the pop and the other sections of the music. The General
Secretary of the Sammelan Mr. B.B.Gurung explained that they
are also responsible to popularize the culture of the new
generation. That's why they have taken this bold step.
The 190th Birth Anniversary of the famous
Nepali poet Bhanu Bhakta Acharya is considered as the right
occasion to rise up with modernity. Mr. Gurung said that they
have decided to celebrate this ceremony in a contemporary
manner. The ceremony been named 'Fusion D-4'. He added that
D-4 means Darjeeling
and this has been done to attract the new generation.
Keshav Gurung, the coordinator of the cultural
committee said that they need some change. The traditional
celebration of the birth anniversary of Bhanu Bhakta was confined
in some recitations and garlanding. He declared that the program
of recitation will remain in the show but an Orchestra and
a local band will accompany the same.
