June 1, 2004:
An initiative has been taken by the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council
(DGHC) to promote tourism in Kalimpong and nearby places in the form
of one-day package tours covering 11 places of interest. The tour
has been packaged so as to attract the middle-class tourists.
The area manager of Kalimpong DGHC,
Mr. Bimal Gazmer has informed that the package had received good
response during the previous year when it was first launched. A
regular visit of 10 tourists is needed to conduct these tours successfully,
so the tour is usually carried out during the tourist season when
there is a flock of visitors there.
The tourists are given a chance to visit places like Jelep-la View
Point, Zang Dhok Palri Phodang Monastery at Durpin Dara, Mangal Dham
Temple, Kali Mandir and the newly-opened Hanuman Park. The bus stops
in Gorkha village for launch. All of these comes with a charge of
Rs.200 per head.
