Green promise renewed : June5, 2004

World Environment Day will be celebrated in Sikkim on 5th of June with fanfare. This year, in this celebration, special programs will be organized by the Gangtok Water Supply and Sanitation Project Department, Australian Aid and the Department of Education. An inter-school poster competition will also be held with a theme of Clean and Beautiful Environment.

Sikkim is famous for its unspoiled serene beauty. The main source of revenue of the state government is tourism and to have sustainable development the Government working on conservation of the natural beauty. To increase awareness among the local people about the importance of environment, the students of schools will organize a play on conservation theme. The school children will bring out a rally regarding the environmental issues.

A Sapling Distribution Program will be organized by the Forest Wildlife Environment Management Department with the help of the NGOs, village level committees and the social Organizations. The C.M. Mr. Pawan Kumar Chamling is known to be a lover of nature.
