Meet over wetland tours; June 10, 2004

June 10, 2004.A meeting is being held at the Alipurduar Circuit House by the eminent persons of the district.

The list consists of Webcon adviser, R. Mahapatra, Alipurduar Sub Divisional Officer Jiban Krishna Sadhuka, local MLA Nirmal Das and chairman of Alipurduar Municipality Dipak Dey. The representatives of different organizations of the Subdivision also attended the meeting.

Mr. Sadhukha said that the D.M. of the District is keen in representing the entire region as a tourist spot by utilizing the dense forests, hills and rivers. He also said that for this purpose the involvement of departments like irrigation, PWD and Forest are very important.

The S.D.O. added that this initiative, if implemented successfully, will help in developing the economy of the local area along with the local inhabitants. For this purpose the micro projects of opening lodges, maintaining the wetlands for attracting the tourist are very crucial. In this connection he also pointed that there is enough ingredients to present this area as a famous tourist spot. The Chairman of Alipurduar Municipality, Mr. Dey echoed similar feelings. According to him the government mentality is the main roadblock in the tourism development of the region.
