Travel news of North East India

Foreign buyers for hill flowers : June 30, 2004

A British Export House has showed interest in importing flowers and vegetables from Kalimpong to England and Australia.

There is still no confirmation but the representatives of the export house have given the farmer the seeds of the products that they plan to export. They think that it will help the farmer get familiar with the products.

Mr. S.S. Mandol, the Officer-in Charge of Comprehensive Area Development Corporation said that the representatives of the export house who had come in the month of May examined the local markets. They are also interested in promoting the local endemic vegetables to their customers abroad. The role of the Corporation is to mediate between the local farmers and the foreign party. Mr. Mandol further added that work has already started in this connection.
