Travel news of North East India

will it be goodby for gooroomg ?

GANGTOK, May 3. - `I shall retire from politics and go to a Basti (village) if the SDF fails to make it to power this time,` said Mr BB Guroong.

The grand old man of Sikkim politics, who has seen it all - from Chogyal's rule to the Mr Pawan Kumar Chamling's reign - has announced his retirement, albeit with a rider and his party may beg to differ.
Sources said that the SDF leadership is preparing to ensure that Mr Gooroong is given a high-level constitutional post in the next term, if both the SDF and the NDA come back to power.Mr Gooroong, once the chief minister of the state, is also one of the most well known.

Be it getting elected uncontested in two constituencies of the state or getting nomination papers rejected for missing a signature, Mr Gooroong has seen it all.
Now, more 75 years of age, he has been an active member of the party and held the post of political advisor to the chief minister during the last government.

A former journalist with the Amrita Bazaar Patrika, Mr Gooroong started his political career under the Chogyal rule and, since then, has been a prominent face in the state's political affairs.
