Gangtok, Nov. 2: Visitors headed for Lachung in north Sikkim can now stay connected to the outside world, thanks to the efforts of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Sikkim circle.

Town residents, led by health minister and area MLA Hissey Lachungpa, have been demanding telecommunication links for over four years now. The telecom service began on Saturday with Travel Agents’ Association of Sikkim president Palzor Lachungpa calling tourism minister R.B. Subba on his mobile. The technology, Cordless Digital Enhanced Telephone Service, also provides for wireless Internet services.
