Kalimpong, Nov. 2: The idyllic locations
of the subdivision have begun to attract filmmakers in the
region.For many a filmmaker from Calcutta, the search for
ideal locales leads to Kalimpong. A Tollywood crew is currently
here on a 10-day jaunt to shoot the film Teesta. The movie,
which stars Debashree Roy and Badshah Moitra, will be shot
at locales in Deolo, Rellie and Dr. Graham’s Homes.
Director of the film Bratya Basu said: `The
story revolves arsound the love story of the two protagonists
who are teachers. We chose Kalimpong for the shooting of the
film as this is the ideal place considering the fact that
the story is set in the hills. We chose Dr. Graham’s
Homes for shooting the school scenes because it is a well-known
and respected institution.`
The film, which is being produced by a new
Calcutta-based production house called Srilab Communication
Pvt. Ltd, also features stars like Piyush Ganguly, Srila Majumdar
and Sanjeevan Guha.
Basu had also shot his previous film Raasta,
released in 2003, at Suntalekhola and Samsing in Kalimpong
subdivision. `Kalimpong is an a ideal location where shooting
of films is concerned. It has scenic beauty and is aesthetically
appealing,` said Basu.
Sanjay Das, the manager of the DGHC’s
Deolo Tourist Lodge, said: `Tollywood is showing an interest
in Kalimpong and this is good for the promotion of tourism
here. Last year, another film directed by Dulal Bhowmick was
shot here at Delo. Stars like Jeet and Reshmi had come for
the shoot. Another pro duction house from Tolly- wood has
also made bookings for shooting a film in January.`
