Gangtok, Nov. 4: In a bid to promote tourism
during the off-season, a food, craft and music festival will
be held here in the first week of December.
The dates for the carnival, to be held from
December 5 to 10, was finalised at a meeting convened recently
by senior officials of the state tourism department
Siphora Targain, the deputy secretary of the Sikkim tourism
department, said the festival would be held at three different
venues.
The site next to Star Cinema at New Market
has been selected for cultural and musical shows while the
open space opposite Blue Sheep at M. G. Marg would be the
venue for the sale and display of art and craft items. The
food fest would be held at Titanic Park.
The state culture department will also be
roped in to help organise the carnival. While the department
officials are still working on the details of the itinerary,
it has been reported that fashion shows will form an important
part of the carnival.
A music fest has been also organised in
Mangan, the North district headquarters, from December 28.
Organisers of the festival have invited bands from all over
the country to participate in the weeklong festivities that
will close on New Year’s day. |
