A two day `Dhakeswari Sarabar and Rasikbeel
Festival 2005` will begin from 29th April near Coochbehar
to highlight the tourist potential of the district. The festival
is expected to be inaugurated by the chief minister Mr. Buddhadev
Bhattacherjee who is now in Delhi to attend the party congress.
The forest, tourism, information and cultural
departments will sponsors the festival. Sabhapati of the panchayat
samiti Radheshyam Adhikari said, “We have an idea to
campaign in support of preservation the wildlife and environment
along with highlight the district tourism potentials.”
The shabhapati held a meeting with the of all gram panchayats
under the samiti, the block development officer and officials
of the information and cultural affairs department yesterday
to take stock of the arrangements made so far. 1.5 lakhs will
be used to organize the festival. Already all the important
places in the district are decorated by banners and posters.
The forest minister Mr. Yogesh Barman will lay foundation
stone of a tiger project and a botanical garden and inaugurate
a hare park at Rasikbeel on April 18. The tiger projects will
come up on a 20-acre plot near the deer park at Rasikbeel.
The state will give Rs. 10.5 lakhs which has been sanctioned
and the zilla parishad has given 4.5 lakhs to the social forestry
department, which is working on the plan. Aurobindo Sarkar,
District information and cultural affairs officer said that
the event would be held at Becharam High School ground, next
to Rashikbeel, if the chief minister inaugurated it.
