Love for pope draws all

A large number of people gathered in the Mela ground of Kalimpong to mourn the death of Pope Jhon Paul II who passed away last Saturday.

A program was organized by the Kalimpong Sarva Dharma Samiti in the Mela ground and people from the different fields of like cutting across political, religious and social divide came together to pray for the soul of the Pope. The mourners sang hymns and offered wreaths, flowers and khadas (traditional white scarves) in memory of the pontiff. At the end of he program a solemn procession was organized by the organizer.

The GNLF MLA from Kalimpong, Mr. Goulam Lepcha said that Pope Jhon Paul II was a liberal person and he loved all religion and thus the program was organized with the view to show respect of his dead soul. The Pope was respected throughout the world for his love for the humanity and today with this program the hill people joined the rest of the world in mourning his demise. The other important persons present during the occasion were KSDS secretary Jyoti Karki and Kalimpong CPM member Tara Sundas.
