Sikkim happy with new map

The recognition of Sikkim as part of China has been a long waited good news for the people of Sikkim. Recently China has recognized Sikkim as part of India and has accordingly rectified its map as well.

The Chinese premier has presented a Chinese map to our Prime Minister Mr. Monmahan Singh which showed Sikkim as a part of India. There has not been any official comment so far from the office of the Chief Minister Mr. Pawan Chamling. His advisor B. B. Gurung said that they welcomed China’s gesture.

The Sikkim issue was an irritant in developing good relationship between the two countries. After the acceptance of Sikkim as a part of Indian Territory the relationship is expected to improve. According to Gurung it will help Sikkim promote tourism which has great importance for the state. Trade between the two countries through the Indo-Chinese boarder at Nathula is also expected to grow as relationship eases further. The Nathula trade has been pending for a long time and can be opened now.
