Mirik poll focus on tourism - 16/04/05

In the forthcoming municipal elections the members of People Democratic Front (PDF) and CPM will contest together against GNLF in the hills. A meeting has been held here at Siliguri today between CPM and PDF.

Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League (ABGL), the Communist Party of Revolutionary Marxists (CPRM) and the GNLF (C), which make up the PDF, took part in the meeting. Both the party members have planned their strategies for campaign. Jibitesh Sarkar, CPM state committee member said that they will focus on the matter how GNLF failed to promote tourism in Mirik. According to Mr. Asok Bhattacherjee, the urban and rural development minister said, “We and PDF will smash out the GNLF power over hills and they will campaign and focus on the failure to run the DGHC. It will be the first test for CPM-PDF alliance power.
