Air brakes
on toy train, a downhill trial away - 22-04-05
The railway have been driven by the safety
concern to slam the break on the brakemen of the toy train.
After the successful trial of the heritage on wheels, now
fitted with airbrakes, the air-brake was successfully tried
on the diesel engine-hauled Darjeeling Himalayan Railway from
Siliguri to Darjeeling today.
On board today’s special run were
S. Srinivas, the director of Research and Designs Standard
Organisation, a wing of the Indian Railways, and B. Paswan,
the deputy chief mechanical engineer (workshop) from Northeast
Frontier Railway headquarters in Malegaon (Assam). They were
accompanied by representatives of Cummins Diesel (engine manufacturers)
and San Engineering and Locomotive Company (locomotive manufacturers)
and a host of engineers and railway officials. `In the next
month air-braking system will be lounged by the railway if
final clearance is delivered. In the past we have faced several
problems regarding the air-brakes during its downhill journey,`
said Mr. Srinivas. A lot of rectification have already been
done and with a new thinking the railway is going forward
to rectify the others problems to run the train for the visitors.
According to the officials this kind of system can safe the
journey of the tourists and the brakemen can easily do their
work without any risk.
