Forest officials accused of murder

Alipurduar, Aug 1: The Jalpaiguri Superintendent of Police, was today directed by the Additional Sessions Judge of the first Fast Track Court to start proceedings for a murder case against a Beat Officer and six other employees of Buxa Tiger Reserve (West).

Initially, the beat officer had filed a case against Niharjan Toppo, whom the court found innocent and was duly released today. The court has also directed the Deputy Field Director of Buxa to pay Rs. 50,000 to the kin of the murdered within two months.

Sudesh Barla, 20, was killed on the spot in a shooting stint between timber smugglers and forest officials on January, 2002.
