Siliguri, Aug 2: The
home stay concept, a new trend in tourism will be introduced
soon in North Bengal. The North Bengal People’s Development
Centre, an NGO, is out to boost this type of tourism in the
district. They are in the process of connecting the tour operators
with the families who are eager to accommodate the tourists
as paying guests in various tourist destinations in this region.
The state tourism department has taken a decision to promote
family tourism in Jalpaiguri district to solve the accommodation
problems and this project is the result of this decision.
A member of the NGO said that they have undertaken a survey
to find check the feasibilities to promote this eco-friendly
and family centric tourism in this region and they thought
that this type of tourism can be developed in the region.
The local people who have their own house
in various tourist destinations in the area are highly interested
to accommodate tourists in their house. This will increase
their income.
Siliguri receives 4,500-5,000 tourists daily
from different parts of India and abroad in the peak season
but the number is 300 - 500 in Jalpaiguri and Coochbehar.
The main problems for the tourists interested to visit Dooars
is the lack of accommodation. If family tourism is introduced
in the recent future then this will not create big problems
for those who are eager to visit the misty Dooars. The tourists
could gather information about family tourism and where they
will stay during their trip from the counters which will be
built in Kolkata, Siliguri and Jalpaiguri. The tourists will
be able to book this family tourism package from the tour
operators who are engaged with this. No doubt that family
tourism will come with a new experience for those tourists
who want to spend their holidays in the Dooars and who are
also eager to know the various cultures of the Dooars. This
type of tourism will also be able to get together various
people into one roof and they could know each other very well.
