Relief for Travellers

Siliguri, Aug 3: Tourists and common passengers to North-Bengal can breath a sigh of relief – they don’t have to face undue harassment in the hands of unscrupulous drivers, dalals and the likes. Travellers’ nightmares will be a thing of the past if the Tourism Facilities Augmentation Committee is successful in streamlining the pre-paid taxi booth and parking services at the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) railway station.

According to the directive, any taxi not following the guidelines laid down for pre-paid booths, and parking attendants if found overcharging the drivers would be penalised.

According to the committee’s convener and the deputy director (north) of the state tourism department, Gopal Lama, the parking fee has been fixed at Rs 5 for a maximum of four hours.

The augmentation committee is represented by: the Railways, the police, the State Tourism Department, Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC), Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA), Jalpaiguri District Administration, Eastern Himalayan Travel and Tour Operators’ Association and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industries in North Bengal (FOCIN).
