Travel news of North East India

Shillong Learns to Rock: courtesy Mahesh Bhupathi

Shillong, Aug 26: It is going to be the biggest musical show in this part of the country. Europe`s most popular band, Michael Learns to Rock, sets foot in the music-crazy hill station on October 1.

It will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex in Polo Ground - the same place where two popular bands - Petra and Firehouse - performed magnificent shows last year.

Michael Learns to Rock has chosen Shillong as one among the three cities in India for the tour - after Bangalore on September 26 and Mumbai on September 28.

The show is organised by Centre Point Entertainment Network and the band`s India trip is handled by Mahesh Bhupathi`s Globosport Management Company. Apart from the local people, music lovers from as far as Siliguri, Kolkata and Darjeeling, is expected to arrive to enjoy the show.

Songs like Sleeping child, Actor, That`s why, Someday and Paint my love, of the band become hugely popular tunes. The Danish band consist of vocalist and keyboard player Jascha Richter, drummer Kare Wanscher and guitarist Mikkel Lentz. According to Bhupathi, Shillong was chosen as the only place in the east because people were very passionate about music, especially, western-music.

`Wed always endeavored at Globosport to bring an international band to North-East India. And luckily my team includes people from Shillong, so it gives us great pride to bring MLTR to Shillong`, said Bhupathi. Some part of the fund will go to the Journalists’ Welfare fund to help members of the Shillong Press Club in need of financial assistance.
