Young guides

Alipurduar, Aug 30: The Jaldapara Wild Life Sanctuary wants to bring youthful vigor to the forest tour by recruiting young guides for the purpose.

`Boys with a Madhyamik qualification and within 28 yrs of age can apply for the job. Extensive lessons on Jaldapara wildlife, tourism management and resources will be given to the appointed candidates`, said M. Biswas, the Divisional Forest Officer of Cooch Behar.

A three-day workshop organised by the Cooch Behar forest division will be held from September 7 at the Holong bungalow. 30 young boys from the neighboring area will be given comprehensive lessons on the flora and fauna of the region - and they will be expected to showcase their acquired training from September 16.

Technical experts from Himalayan Nature and Adventure Foundation will also participate in the workshop. The guides will be available at Rs 50. The forest officials are hopeful that this will provide a new boost to tourism in Jaldapara while improving the socio-economic condition of the villagers.

He said resource persons from Himalayan Nature and Adventure Foundation will participate in the workshop. `Expert guides will be available at Rs 50. This will give a new definition to tourism in Jaldapara and will also improve the socio-economic condition of the villages here,` Biswas added.
