Gangtok, Nov. 30: The state tourism department is starting the four-day Gangtok Winter Festival on December 8. The festival will be held in two locations: the Sukhani House Complex and the tourism department’s office on M.G. Marg.

The department's aim is to provide life to the lean winter season by providing tourists and residents a taste of nature, culture and adventure. Besides the food festival and various cultural programmes, rafting on the Teesta, rock climbing at Baluakhani, mountain biking and trekking are some of the attractions of the fest.

Also, and exhibition and sale of ethnic handicrafts, a flower show, and an archery competition will be the other highlights of the festival. The Mangan Music Festival will be held in North Sikkim following the Gangtok Festival – it will also be organised by the state tourism department.
