Adventure sports in Sikkim

Gangtok, Dec. 8: The three-day long Gangtok winter festival will provide encouragement to adventure sports in the state. The festival has mountaineering, rock climbing, archery, mountain biking and trekking as its chief attractions.

As the state tourism minister, R. B. Subba flew here from Delhi to inaugurate the festival, the weather was cold, but it failed to dampen the spirits of the local visitors coming in large numbers. However, the weather prevented outstation tourists from attending the ceremony on the first day.

Ethnic food, cultural programmes, handicrafts, handloom exhibitions and musical programmes are added attractions of the festival. Traditional houses of the Nepalis, Bhutias and Lepchas, the three prominent ethnic communities in the state, was erected in the premises of the festival to showcase their lifestyle and traditions.
