New roads cut time to hill hamlets Kalimpong Dt. - 20/01/2005
To offer a better connectivity a new road connecting
Kalimpong with Bongbasti and another stretch from Kalimpong to Tarkhola
will be soon introduced.
Already two new routes has been introduce
which connects Kalimpong with other places like Gitdabling, Kaffer,
Lava, Deoarali, Singe, Loleygaon, SamalbingCharkhola and Samthar.
Vehicles have started to run on the new 15 km stretch between Rellie
to Deorali and another 20 km stretch from Pala to Bakhrakote, which
cuts a lot of time for the local people said assistant engineer Anil
Chhetri of the DGHC’s special department (engineering division).
He added that they have an intensity to start another stretch from
Sangse to Tarkhola from next month. The funds to construct these routes
came from the central government under the Rural Infrastructure Development
Fund, will help the people living in the area by making the distance
to Kalimpong much shorter. Total distance from Kalimpong to Deorali
via Algarah was around 48 km and it is 28 km. for this route.
