The Kurseong Tribal Lepcha association
has decided that they would build a monastery and study centre
in the outskirts of the town to alive their tradition, their
culture and their language.
Already the construction has begun in at
Money Dhara on Downhill road and the amount for the project
is being funded by the association which consist 90 members...
Kamal Lepcha the association president said that according
to Lepcha language Kurseong means white orchid. Our culture,
tradition and language are fading away because we can not
properly perform our rituals or ceremonies due to unavailability
of place. The monastery will be two storied and house and
office and a study centre for learning the Lepcha language.
Lepcha said, “The process to build a gumpha for the
Lepcha community was under our discursion and for we tried
to seek help from other sources but were turned around. Then
we decided to construct a gumpha on our own. This will help
us unite and to preserve our culture.” This monastery
will be the first of its kind in the subdivision and certainly
help add value to the subdivision. The name of this monastery
has not yet decided but it is sure that the name must be in
Lepcha language
