Lava is lively after snowfall Dt. - 25/01/05

Snowfall in Lava, a mini gateway of Sikkim, is attracting large number of tourists. The popular tourist spot of Lava is just 32 km. away from the main town of Kalimpong. Lava wore a new look after a heavy snowfall, yesterday. Mr. TN Bhutia, range manager (Lava) for West Bengal Forest Development Corporation said, `Snowfall started from 2.15 p.m. yesterday and continued till 4 p.m.`

Tourists are coming here from different parts of the country to enjoy this chill atmosphere in Lava. `DGAHC tourist lodges which were already packed, have witnessed an increased rate of visitors this year,` said Mr. Bimal Gazmer, area manager of tourism department (DGAHC). Most places of Lava were covered in white. 3 to 6 inches of snow covered the entire bazaar and the high points simultaneously. According to the residents there is no problem because of the snow; instead they are enjoying this snowfall because it is not very frequent here. Subrani Das (35) from Kolkata said, `From a famous hill resort here in lava we are enjoying the picturesque region wearing a snow-blanket and really it is a nice time for us.`
