Plans to upgrade and reopen the airstrip
in Coochbehar are underway. A team of officials from Airport
Authority of India will arrive here tomorrow to finalise a
deal with the district authority for this purpose.
The team will visit the spot to get the
feasibility of the airstrips and also will meet the district
magistrate Mr. Ravi Inder Singh and shabhadhipati Mr. Ananta
Roy tomorrow. The centre has sanctioned 20 crore for the reconstruction
of the airstrips. The airstrip is in a poor state and it needs
full reconstruction. The office building which was constructed
during the reign of Maharaja has become a hideout of criminals.
The sabhadhipati told that the runway will be extended and
the land required for the purpose has already been provided
by the district authorities. The reopen of the airstrip will
boost the business and tourism prospect of this district.
