Model village in Ravangla - 26/07/05

The state government of Sikkim has taken up a decision to come up with a model village near the sub-divisional town of Ravangla in South Sikkim. A proposal in this direction has already been taken by the state governments.

In a Van Mohotsav function, held here earlier this week, Mr. D. D. Bhutia, Sikkim urban development and land revenue minister has announced this. An amount of Rs. 18 crore will be spent by the government to construct the village. `The plan is to set up a colony where all the facilities will be available and 100 poor families will be able to accommodate themselves` said Mr. Bhutia. The land for the purpose has already been identified and it belongs to the animal husbandry department on Kewzing Road. The village will be constructed in the form of a colony and the house will be transferred to the families once the departments construct it. Mr. Bhutia was in a trip to the Kewzing road and he also involved in a deliberations with the village tourism there. He also visited the local market and the other areas to work out a detail plan to develop the place. Kewzing which is the best know destination for the village tourism will be able to receive more visitors once the plan succeeds. This area is also known as the bird watchers paradise.
