Bhattacherjee plans to talk to the tea planters to promote
tea tourism in North Bengal. This activity is expected to
generate revenue and employments for the beleaguered tea industry.
On this occasion the divisional commissioner and the commerce
and industry minister spoke on the steps already taken in
this direction. The officials informed that the state government
is highly interested in this project.
A meeting will be held on 12th march at
the Central Dooar Club on the same day the Teesta Ganga Festival
at Barovisha will also be inaugurated. The Chief Minister
is expected to elaborate on the Govt. stand on tea tourism
and the factors associated with it. DM Mr. A. Subbiah said
that chief minister is meeting with the tea planters with
this new concept. The Commerce and Industries Minister Mr.
Nirupam Sen also has taken interest in the project.
The concept of tea tourism is to utilize
the bungalows of tea plantations for tourism activity. The
administration has plans to arrange package tours for the
visitors. Tour operator will also be engaged to promote the
new concept. According to administrative officials a proposal
has already been send to the chief minister and the tourism
department has chosen some estate club to promote tea tourism.
The garden owners are also showing keen interest in tea tourism.
The chief minister Mr. Bhattacharjee is also expected to ask
the estate owner to increase the accommodation and to recruits
the local youth as guides. Chief Minister is also interested
to ensure development of ancillary infrastructure like roads,
bridges and culverts, through different schemes. These projects
will encourage tour operators to promote tourism in the tea
estates.
