Toy Train and Tea Estate: A perfect combination - 14/03/05

A tea bar has come up in Kurseong to serve the champagne of the hills. The place is modeled after the toy train. Chai Country, the tea bar, has started business. `No inauguration ceremony was held there because the bar is yet under construction but the construction will be completed before the starting of the next tourist season,` said Jennifer Khaling, the manager of Cochrane Place, the hotel of which the tea bar is a part. Many tourists have already booked their rooms over the past two months.

`We will mostly serve the Darjeeling tea but we have other selection of Assam tea as well,` said Khaling. She also said that the bar has everything which attracts the tourists here. Karseong is a renowned place for Darjeeling tea and we choose this place to set up a bar of the same quality, said Khaling.

The tea bar Chai Country will help to promote tourists in a large way. The main property of the hills is Toy Train and the tea which a visitor can observe here in Kurseong. The entrance of the bar has been decorated in the model of the locomotive which will attract the tourists. Visitors, once they step inside, will be served from counters that resemble the coaches of the narrow-gauge train. The other parts of the hotels are decorated by the antique furniture collected from the different of the country. Even the doors and windows are antique as are the four-poster beds in the rooms. The hotel authority has planed to provide package tour for the visitors to add value to the ambience of the place. The manager of the hotel said that they have close contact in the tea gardens of the area and most tourists want to know how the tea processed. The visitors are also interested to visit the tea estate and they want to see the factories of the garden. The Princess of Thailand has also visited a tea garden during her visit here earlier this month. Khaling informed us that they can arrange for tourists to visit the tea garden like Ambootia and Makaibari. Chimney Point, a famous picnic spot and Father’s Abraham’s Farm are the other spot which the hotel management wants to include as a tourist place. In Kurseo9ng the other places of interest are scenic Balason Khola, the forest museum, and the heritage schools located in Dow Hill and St Mary’s Hill. According to the hotel authority our new projects will make Kurseong a famous tourists spot among the other. The tour operators are also anxious about the place.
