History revived from holy ruins - 04/05/05

The history of Yuksom is set to rise from the ruins of war. Two 17th century monasteries in the erstwhile capital of Sikkim which have been rebuilt and will be inaugurated on 10th of May. These are the monasteries which were destroyed in the battle with Nepal.

Kartok Yossel Ling and Gnadok Chang Chub Ling, the two monasteries which will show there new look. It is the initiatives of Mr. Yangthang Rimpoche who took the charge to rebuild the old monasteries and he bore the entire expense of the whole projects himself. The wait is finally over and the houses of worship will be reopened amidst special prayers and consecration ceremonies for three days. A separate inauguration committee has been formed for the gala day.

Two Buddhist scholars from Tibet came here to spread the red hat sect of Buddhism. The two monasteries were built by Karthok Chempo and Ngadak Chempo which were later destroyed in the war with Nepal. The name Yuksom is derived from the meeting point of three monks Lhatsun Chempo, Kartok Semba Chempo and Ngadak Rinzing Chempo. Penor Rimpoche will perform the Tashi Rapnay (inauguration) followed by the Karthok Yossel and Gnadok Chang Chub Ling rapnay ceremony on May 10. On May 12 a Kawang (blessing) ceremony will be held.
