Elephant rides at Sukna

Sukna, Nov. 1: The forest minister, Jogesh Burman, was here in Sukna forest - part of the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary – to start the first elephant ride in the forest.

Two elephants named Meenakshi (15) and Siladitya (8) has been deployed to take the tourists on a one-hour tour of the forest.

`This is part of our effort to develop ecotourism`, said the forest minister. A similar initiative has also started in Dhupjora within Gorumara.

The elephants will make alternate trips to Khoklong forest village and the Panchanadi River. The rides will start from 7am to 10 am. It will be charged at Rs 100 per head, and children below six years will get free rides.
