Festivity continues in Siliguri

Siliguri, Nov. 3: The bhai tika or bhai phota is over, but the festivity in Siliguri goes non-stop. It is already gearing up for next week’s Chhatth Puja, observed by people across different communities.

Devotees are already erecting ghats – mud embankments – across the banks of the Mahananda River to worship Chhatth Mata. The celebrations are spread up across a large number of kilometers along the river.

The city administration has taken necessary steps so that the festival goes without any problems. Lights have been put up and the maintenance of the roads leading to the ghat is being done. It is estimated that there are around 90 ghats being built in the corporation area alone.

The city police are prepared to ensure that the festival is celebrated peacefully. The police have assured that stern action will be taken against eve-teasing, use of banned firecrackers and loud speakers blaring above the permitted decibel level.

The celebrations will begin from Saturday and the next day Bihari households will be busy preparing thekuas – sweet biscuits made of flour – to share them with their neighbors.
