Kalimpong, Nov. 6: Today, at the Town
Hall in Kalimpong, a photo exhibition was held to strengthen
the cultural ties between India and Russia. Organised by the
Russian Cultural Centre, the exhibition displayed around 400
photographs taken by two amateur photographers named E. Zozulya
and G. Zinovyev, during their travels in India and Russia.
The exhibition brought out the similarities, dissimilarities
and the uniqueness of the landscape, architecture, religion
and culture of both the countries. It was dedicated to the
80th anniversary of All Union Society for Cooperation with
Foreign Countries.
According to the vice-consulate at the
Russian Embassy in Kolkata, Kalimpong was chosen as the desired
destination because the hill town shares a special bond with
Russia. The wife of Russian painter Nicholas Roerich, Helena
spent the last eight years of her life before her death at
Crookety, a mansion at Chandraloke in Kalimpong. She was known
for her philanthropy works and was believed to be captivated
by the small hill town.
