Alipurduar, Oct. 6: December 15, 2005, is slated to be celebrated as World Tea Day.

Before the first commemoration of World Tea Day, an international conference on tea will be held in New Delhi, attended by tea-producing countries of Kenya, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Vietnam and members of different trade unions in India.

The decision was taken by RSP labour wing called the UTUC, in a meeting at 17, Firoz Shah Road, New Delhi, yesterday. Seven trade union members of the central committee attended the meet.

The MP of Alipurduar and the member of the central committee, Joachim Baxla, said over the phone that UTUC was implementing and idea chalked out at the World Social Forum held in Brazil this January.

Leading to the December 15 celebration, many rallies and workshops will be held exposing the problems faced by tea labourers in tea plantation areas.
