Kolkata, Oct. 13: If
the experiment in Ayurvedic or health tourism is successful
than Bengal might as well go the Kerala way in promoting this
lucrative sector.
The state forest department is planning
to start the project in Gar Panchakot near Bokaro, 250 km
from Kolkata, where exotic massages and traditional skincare
in the lap of nature will be provided.
If the scheme goes successful, the department
plans to repeat it in other places like Buxa, which is rich
in medicinal herbs. The department has 12 eco-lodges in Bengal
but the Ayurvedic venture is a new concept in the region.
Local Ayurved practitioners will be involved in the project
to identify the medicinal herbs and plants.
Gar Panchakot already has 35 Ayurvedic practitioners
and masseurs – 10 of them have been short listed to
go through the orientation programme.
The certificated and credentials of the
practitioners have been handed over to the Ayurveda Board
for verification.
Already, star resorts like Sinclairs Dooars,
Fort Radisson, Raichak Spa and the Oberoi Spa offer Ayurvedic
treatments in Bengal. Gar Panchakot is set to promote Ayurveda
from the roots with an area where medicinal plants and herbs
grow naturally at a village that has a tradition of Ayurveda.
The reason for Kerala’s success in
Ayurveda was mainly because it was part of their tradition
– used by the Kalari martial artists and Kathakali dancers
for deep-tissue treatments. |
