Travel news of North East India

High hopes for Manas

Siliguri, Sep 6: Manas Wildlife Sanctuary is all set to become the hottest eco-tourism spot in the world.

Help Tourism and Ashoka Holidays, who launched the Manas Initiative jointly, won the prestigious most innovative product award at the 43rd Travel and Tourism Fair held in Kolkata.

The Manas Sanctuary – 435 km from Siliguri – is the first community based eco-tourism project in the North East.

The Manas Initiative took away the award competing with participants of countries like Switzerland, Great Britain, Malaysia and Singapore. It was a unique concept involving the most original ideas and could serve as a model to the rest of the world.

In another moment of triumph for the tourism industry in the region, Mendabari of Jaldapara bagged the award for the `most promising destination`.
