MoU for mountaineering and adventure

Gangtok, Sep 15: A MoU was signed between the Travel Agents Association of Sikkim and the Sikkim Mountaineering Association to seek technical support on mountaineering and adventure tourism in the state.

It follows the government’s decision to open up five peaks – all below the altitude of 20,000 feet – in Sikkim for trekking and mountaineering.

According to the MoU, SMA will provide tech support to TAAS and train their guides and climbers. The SMA will also organise open expeditions in coordination with TAAS for publicity. The two associations will help the government chalk out policies and plans on adventure tourism and supply it with crucial information on ground realities.
