Jalpaiguri,
Sep 25: Gorumara National Park is soon expecting a beeline
of tourists with a taste for the exotic, as the state forest department
is laying down plans for a new set of initiatives.
When the new project begins wildlife enthusiasts and tourists to South
Dhupjhora and Panjhora - which are 45 km from Jalpaiguri and
72 km from Siliguri – bordering the national park will be able
to enjoy rides with the pet elephants. A tree-top cottage has been
constructed at South Dhupjhora and four regular cottages have been
constructed at both locations.
The forest department has planned a comprehensive package for the
tourists who can go to nearby rivers and streams to watch them bath
and feed. The package is called the Captive Elephant Management
Programme.
A cultural programme will be held for the tourists in the evening
with tribal troupes from the neighboring area.
Considering the varieties of the package offered the charges are
reasonable, too. Regular Cottages providing accommodation to three
persons costs Rs 500 per day and the single tree-top cottage is
charged at Rs 800 per day. Visitors have to pay Rs 200 per day for
food, Rs 100 for elephant rides and Rs 200 per cottage for cultural
programmes.
