An initiative taken by eight youths of
the village called Bara Mangwa in Kalimpong has made the place
one of the latest attractions in adventure tourism in the
hill station. Gloria Cave, a 300 m natural cave was opened
to tourists last Saturday with much fanfare which included
the holy chant and a cultural performance.
Cave exploration is fast becoming a popular
activity among adventure enthusiasts and the youths have taken
advantage of this demand. One of the members of the group
named Mangwa-Takling Nature Guide and Adventure Tracks Group
said that they were very enthusiastic about the response of
the tourists and only recently they realized that opening
the caves for exploration was a great idea to create employment
and bring exposure to their village. The group plans to open
other caves soon as the area has abundant number of caves.
The group also plans to promote rock-climbing,
trekking and white-water rafting in association with other
adventure tour operators. The village of Bara Mangwa is located
55 km from Siliguri.
