It`s breathtaking; with the snow clad
Himalayan ranges and deep-blue Yumthang Chu. Visitors who
have been to North Sikkim compare it with the beauty of the
Swiss alpine landscapes, especially, Yumthang, at an altitude
of 11,800 feet above sea level.
Recently, North Sikkim with its magnificent
mountains covered with snow and lovely lakes has become a
favorite among tourists; this has provided some relief to
the already over loaded destinations like Tsongo, Gangtok
and Pelling.
The state`s tourism minister comments that
the growth of tourism in Sikkim is phenomenal - 15 to 19 per
cent annually for the last 3 years. The state tourism department
plans to set up a tourist resort at Chopta Valley in North
Sikkim in addition to the private lodges that has already
come up in the location.
North Sikkim provides the look and feel
of the Swiss Alps without putting to much strain on the pocket.
The snow-clad mountains, primulas, valleys covered with greenery,
springs and yaks grazing peacefully and the hospitable people
of North Sikkim; all combined it makes for a true ingredient
of a dream holiday. In addition, adventure seekers can go
for treks to the Green lake and Phunithoka areas. |
